Thank you for Your Gift of Involvement
First and Foremost, the loving support you provide your child and attention to his or her spiritual, academic, social and physical needs is the most important way you can be involved. After that, volunteer opportunities abound. 
Here are some of the ways you can be involved at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School.

 
Parent School Association Volunteer Opportunities:
 
Community Service: The Community Service Committee organizes any school wide service project. These projects include, but are not limited to, monthly Caritas Lunch Brigade, St. Gabriel’s Family Day at Caritas (monthly), Candy from Heaven Drive, and other programs as decided by the Board.

Community Spirit: The Community Spirit committee is responsible for coordinating family and parent social events such as Homecoming Carnival and parent grade socials.

Nutrition/Green Committee:This committee collaborates with school officials to promote optimum nutrition and environmental awareness at the school.

Teacher Appreciation Lunches: Teacher Appreciation Lunches are hosted 4 times per year by different grade levels. Saber Games: Strategic Games based on the Math Pentathlon Program (www.mathpentath.org) The Math Pentathlon program includes games that stimulate creative thinking while developing problem-solving skills. This motivational program strengthens basic math concepts and skills in an interactive and challenging way. PSA sponsors and staffs this program and needs parents to help learn and teach the games. Programs Committee: This committee works with teachers and parents to bring speakers, authors, performers and more to St. Gabriel’s for education and enrichment for both students and parents. If you have guest presenter ideas or would like to assist contact Valerie Shaw at Valerie@ShawTx.com
 
Room Parents:
Lower School (LS) Homeroom Parents: This parent is the main contact between the parent in your room and the teacher, as well as PSA. This person is responsible for dissemination of information via email to parents on a regular basis (i.e. volunteer needs, schedule changes, spirit days, etc.)   The Room Parents also identify parents to serve as Classroom Party Coordinator (helps organize Christmas and Valentine’s parties) and LS Field Trip Coordinator (assists teacher with field trip preparation and chaperone schedule.)

Volunteers help with re-shelving returned materials, aid students in checking out books, simple book management (add stickers to book spines), laminating teacher materials. Shifts daily Monday through Friday: 9-11am and 1-3pm.
 
Field Day Volunteers - Every spring, St. Gabriel’s hosts Austin’s best field day! Parent volunteers are needed for everything from field day stations to water and popsicle duty. Contact Athletic Director – Jody Kunz

Dad’s Sunday Night Basketball
Calling all St. Gabriel's Dads who are interested in staying in shape and having a good time playing a little full-court basketball. Beginning in mid September, we will meet every Sunday night during the school year from 7:30-9:30PM in the St. Gabriel's gym. Please contact Ben Sander at ben.sander@amd.com if you are interested in playing. Hope to see you out on the court!

Development and Fundraising
Are you a born fundraiser? Yes or no, your talents and skills can be put to use for the school in fundraising, grant writing and event planning.
·         The Angel Fund ~ St. Gabriel’s annual campaign which is run in the fall of each year;
·         Gala and Auction ~ Feb. 5, 2011 at the Four Seasons~ need volunteers for marketing, materials, décor, auction, class baskets and class projects; or
·         The annual Golf Day & Family BBQ ~ Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Greyrock ~ a great day for the whole family!

Admissions Ambassadors
Host Family Program  Host families support new families in their transition to St. Gabriel's by welcoming them to the community. Responsibilities include attending the New Parent Meet and Greet event in the Spring, arranging one in-person meeting, and responding to questions from the new family. Time commitment is up to the individual family.
Open House Hosts Open House Hosts lead campus tours and share their experience as a St. Gabriel's parent with prospective families during Open House events (3 per year/ November, January, and April.) Time commitment is three hours plus a 30 minute touring training session per event.
Pre-K Mentor Parent  Pre-K Mentor Parents serve as the primary parent contact for incoming Pre-Kindergarten families. Responsibilities include responding to parent questions via email and telephone during the Spring and Summer. Time commitment is roughly one hour per week from May-August.

Head Committees
Head Committees are advisory committees that support the Head of School with various operational functions. Members are selected by the Board and Head of School for their expertise in various fields: Technology, PR & Marketing, Facilities, Athletics, Academics, Spiritual Life and Diversity. Contact Steve Balak at steve.balak@sgs-austin.org
