| Middle School Program - Sixth through Eighth Grade |
Students in the Middle School begin moving from class to class for each academic subject. Wanting to challenge, but not overwhelm, they are placed in one of two Language Arts classes, where grammar, vocabulary, writing and novel work may have a different emphasis. Similarly, they are placed in one of three mathematics classes which most closely meets their skill level. For example, an eighth grade student may be taking high school credited pre-algebra, algebra or geometry. In grade six, students begin formal study of Spanish or Latin. In addition, all Middle School students take religion, social studies with an emphasis on geography, and electives including physical education, studio art, drama, chorus, music, T.V. studio, yearbook, music, robotics, and study hall.
In grade six, all students have a study hall that offers time to complete work. All sixth grade students have study skills and receive assistance from teachers, which includes tips and strategies for studying, test taking, stress management and learning style identification.
St. Gabriel's Middle School curriculum encourages students to show initiative, take personal responsibility for learning, manage time wisely, find a voice in writing and discover their
passions.
