| Lower School Technology |
Technology is incorporated into every aspect of the academic program at St. Gabriel's. Our students receive weekly instruction to enhance their computer literacy, then use these skills to work on special projects related to curriculum topics.
St. Gabriel's believes in making technology available to all students. Laptops are used as tools to organize data, research ideas, and create presentations. Classes are offered to Lower School students to ensure that they acquire keyboarding skills, basic computer skills and functions, an introduction to desktop publishing and experience with other multimedia software packages.
Access to a mobile laptop cart, a computer lab and probeware enable students as a class or in smaller groups to use the Internet for research, to conduct science experiments and to upload results for analysis. Throughout the Lower School, students may use laptops for research projects, writing assignments or language practice, and even in Geometry where the Geometer Sketchpad application helps students visualize their solutions.
| Middle School Technology/One-to-One Laptop Program |
In the fall of 2007 St. Gabriel’s Catholic School took strides toward becoming a paperless school, due largely to the implementation of new technology in its classrooms. All students in the Middle School, grades 6 – 8 now have a personal laptop for use at school and at home. A wireless network provides continuous connectivity and access to local and internet resources across the entire campus. All faculty also have their own personal laptops with which to lead computer-based instruction and provide online classroom resources. All classrooms and common areas in the Middle School are equipped with data projectors and a sound system which can display media from a computer, CD, VCR, or DVD.
In their classes, MS students access class syllabi and calendars online. They can download assignments from class web pages and submit papers and homework via email. They can also take notes on their PC and supplement the notes with images and online links, allowing students to utilize multiple learning styles, and teachers to utilize rich assessment strategies.
